Hypothesis
To identify the construct of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in published measures for adults and assess the psychometric properties of these measures.
Conclusion
The study identified six key domains of oral health-related quality of life and recommended specific measures for evaluating it in adults.
Supporting Evidence
- Six relevant domains of OHRQoL were identified: pain/discomfort, oral diseases and disorders, functional limitation, oral hygiene, oral hygiene behavior, and psychosocial impact.
- All studies had adequate methodological quality in terms of content validity, construct validity, and internal consistency.
- High-quality evidence on psychometric properties was provided for OHIP, GOHAI, and OIDP.
Takeaway
This study looked at how to measure oral health quality for adults and found six important areas to focus on.
Methodology
Nine databases were searched, and the COSMIN Risk of Bias Checklist was used to assess methodological quality.
Limitations
Limited information was retrieved on cross-cultural validity, criterion validity, reliability, hypothesis testing, and responsiveness.
