Hypothesis

The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the incidence of domestic elder abuse in Japan.

Conclusion

The incidence of domestic elder abuse cases slightly increased in Matsudo City during the COVID-19 pandemic, while it slightly decreased in Japan overall.

  • The number of validated domestic elder abuse cases per 100,000 people in Matsudo City was 81.8 from 2004 to 2019 and increased to 84.1 from 2020 to 2022.
  • In Japan, the number of validated domestic elder abuse cases per 100,000 people was 49.8 from 2004 to 2019 and decreased to 46.4 from 2020 to 2022.

This study looked at how COVID-19 affected elder abuse in Japan, finding that it got a bit worse in one city but better in the whole country.
