Hypothesis
The Airtraq® and Truview® laryngoscopes will perform better than the Macintosh laryngoscope for Advanced Paramedics in both easy and simulated difficult intubation scenarios.
Conclusion
The Airtraq® laryngoscope performed better than the Macintosh and Truview® devices in this study.
Supporting Evidence
- The Airtraq® reduced the number of optimization manoeuvres required.
- The Truview® increased the duration of intubation attempts.
- All participants successfully intubated the trachea with the Macintosh laryngoscope.
Takeaway
This study tested three types of laryngoscopes to see which one helps paramedics intubate patients better. The Airtraq® was found to be the best.
Methodology
A randomized, controlled, manikin study where 21 Advanced Paramedics performed intubation with three different laryngoscopes.
Potential Biases
Participants could not be blinded to the device used, which may introduce bias.
Limitations
The study was conducted on manikins, and results may not directly translate to clinical settings.
Participant Demographics
21 Advanced Paramedics certified to perform tracheal intubation.
