Hypothesis
Can microwave-assisted extraction improve the yields of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid from Ligustrum lucidum?
Conclusion
Microwave-assisted extraction significantly improves the yields of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid from Ligustrum lucidum under optimized conditions.
Supporting Evidence
- The optimal extraction conditions were 80% ethanol, a 15:1 liquid to material ratio, 500 W microwave power, 70 °C extraction temperature, and 20 min extraction time.
- Under these conditions, the yields of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid were 4.4 ± 0.20 mg/g and 5.8 ± 0.15 mg/g, respectively.
- The study found that the influence of experimental parameters on the yield of ursolic acid was more significant than that of oleanolic acid.
Takeaway
This study shows that using microwaves can help get more good stuff out of a plant called Ligustrum lucidum in a shorter time.
Methodology
Microwave-assisted extraction was used to evaluate the effects of various parameters on the extraction efficiency of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid.
